IUS (Intra Uterine System)
If you suffer from very heavy menstrual bleeding, an IUS (Mirena) may be a good solution for you. In contrast to birth-control pills, the IUS doesn’t contain oestrogen, only gestagen. An IUS reduces the amount of bleeding as the continuous release of gestagen prevents the lining of the uterus from growing. For the first couple of months after you’ve had the IUS fitted, your period will be irregular and there will be spot bleeding too. But usually, these problems are only temporary, and most women find that the IUS works well. Some will experience that their period stops altogether.
The private health insurance “Danmark” reimburses part of the costs.
Some women experience temporary side-effects in the form of headaches, mood swings, acne or tender breasts.
