PCO - Hormonal analysis
What is PCO/PCOS?
PCO/PCOS is the most common hormonal imbalance in women of child-bearing age. About 20% of all women have PCO, and about 15% of all women have PCOS.
PCO is the abbreviation for polycystic ovary and it means that there are many small cysts on the ovaries. Usually there’ll be PCO on both ovaries, but sometimes they are only present in one ovary.
PCOS is the abbreviation for polycystic ovary syndrome, and it means that in addition to having PCO, the woman will also have one or more symptoms caused by PCO. This could be excess facial hair or acne. PCO/PCOS can lead to reduced fertility and risk of pregnancy complications such as early miscarriage, diabetes during pregnancy, placenta insufficiency, preeclampsia and premature birth.
PCO Hormonal Analysis
If PCO is the reason why you don’t get pregnant, you need professional treatment. In your second cycle, we’ll do a hormonal analysis to establish whether you have PCO. Hormonal values like FSH, LH and Androgen Status will be measured. In addition, a scan will show if you have any cysts. If you’ve got PCO, there’ll often be a number of small cysts placed in the periphery of your ovaries. And the ovaries may be enlarged due to a lot of connective tissue in the centre.
